How to choose a mouse that fits

A short guide to what matters when you pick a mouse, in the order we look at it.

  1. Know your hand

Hand length and palm width decide which sizes feel natural. Scan your hand on a blank sheet of A4 to get both.

  2. Know your grip

How your hand rests on the mouse changes which shapes suit it.

    Palm
Your whole palm rests on the mouse.
    Claw
Your palm touches the back and your fingers arch.
    Fingertip
Only your fingertips control the mouse.
  3. Palm thickness

Thick, medium or thin may change how tall a mouse should be. You can pick one after the scan; skip it and we do not adjust.

    Thick
A full palm; the base of the thumb clearly bulges
    Medium
A natural curve in the palm, between the two
    Thin
A flatter palm; the tendons on the back of the hand show more
  4. Match the size

Length and width matter most. We compare both with your hand.

  5. Look at the shape

Some shells are symmetrical; others are shaped for one hand. Hump position, front width and side curve change how a mouse sits.

  6. How we score

Palmate scores each mouse against your hand and tells you why.

    1. Length
    2. Grip width
    3. Height and hump
    4. Front flare
    5. Thumb rest
    6. Weight

    Longer bar = counts more
